NEASO at the 2023 NSORA

BY KATE HILTS

Your NEASO delegates were proud to represent you at the NSO RA last week in Atlanta. The delegate body passed several important NBIs including one to increase the NSO strike disbursement from $75 to $150 per day, as it had not been updated in decades. The delegates also passed an NBI to establish an ad hoc committee to look into organizing new bargaining units and recruiting new members, as a means of expanding and strengthening our union.

In our continued fight for racial justice, the body adopted one NBI to establish a racial justice training track for the next WAR college, and another to donate $1,000 to the Atlanta Solidarity Fund (which passed unanimously). Finally, as an equity measure, delegates passed an NBI to ensure CBC attendees are reimbursed equally for hotel rooms regardless of gender, rather than being expected to share with a member of the same gender. Due to the passage of these NBIs, dues will increase yearly by $16 for professional staff and $8 for associate staff.

NEASO also proposed several other NBIs which, unfortunately, did not pass. This included a proposed per diem for the NSO Executive Board to increase financial accountability and transparency. Additionally, NEASO called for the upcoming WAR College to be moved from Sarasota, Florida to a location that would be safe and supportive for our colleagues, and in line with our union values.

If you would like to hear more about the NBIs, or have questions on the NSO RA, please reach out to your delegates.
