NEASO Spring Training EDUCATION SERIES
In our ongoing commitment to educate and empower our members, NEASO recently hosted two insightful training sessions as part of our Spring Training series. Led by your NEASO family and experts in their fields, these sessions delved into the fundamentals of our union, explored the intricacies of collective bargaining, and underscored the importance of member participation in shaping our collective future. As we recap these sessions, we also look ahead to our upcoming training session, Being Strike Ready, which equips our members with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate crucial decisions surrounding a potential strike or other work actions.
UNION 101
Led by former NEASO President Branita Griffin Henson and Colleen O’Connell, Union 101 provided a comprehensive overview of the history and significance of our union. We delved into the core principles of collective action, highlighting how unions serve as the embodiment of democracy in action. Key takeaways included understanding the power of collective bargaining, the legal protections afforded by the National Labor Relations Act, and debunking common misconceptions about individual advocacy versus collective action. Participants gained insights into the tangible benefits of union membership, from higher wages to improved workplace conditions, and the essential role NEASO plays in safeguarding the rights and interests of our members.
BARGAINING 101
In Bargaining 101, led by Michael Mignano and featuring insights from NEASO’s Contract Action Team, we delved into the intricacies of collective bargaining. With NEAHQ poised to embark on bargaining negotiations, this session provided invaluable guidance on the process and preparations involved. We emphasized the importance of member input through surveys, listening sessions, and one-on-one consultations to ensure their voices are heard at the bargaining table. Participants gained a deeper understanding of NEASO’s distinct role as a union employed by the nation’s largest union, underscoring our commitment to advocating for the needs of our members and ensuring our employer lives the values it preaches.
BEING STRIKE READY
Building on the foundational knowledge gained from Union 101 and Bargaining 101, our upcoming Being Strike Ready training promises to be a vital resource for our members. As you’ll hear repeatedly, the best way to avoid a strike is to prepare for one. This session, led by Justin Conley, will equip participants with the essential information needed to make informed decisions should the prospect of a strike or other work actions arise. From understanding the timeline and procedures involved in a strike to exploring the support mechanisms provided by NEASO and NSO, this training ensures that our members are empowered to navigate challenging circumstances with confidence and solidarity.
NEASO remains committed to investing in us and providing our members with the knowledge and resources they need to advocate for their rights and the livelihood of themselves and their families. Through our Spring Training series and upcoming Being Strike Ready training, we reaffirm our dedication to fostering a strong, informed, and united union.
